montessori & differentiated instruction
One of the main principles of the Montessori Program is that it is individualized. I strive to ensure that the students are all getting what they need. This is done through Guided Reading, working with small groups in Math, Worktime, etc. There are times when the students are all working on different concepts and subjects. Here are a few snapshots of this.
Two students working on numbers 1-100 using the Montessori Hundred Board.

These students wanted to work side by side, but are using materials that are appropriate to what they need to improve on. (One student is working on "oa" words, while the other is reading sentences that use "y" as a vowel, matching the sentence to the picture.)
These students put a poem in order on a mat (word work). They love getting their picture taken!
Students are able to move around and use positions that work best for them. One student is doing his "-ar word family" writing using a vertical surface, while another girl is doing the "write around the room" activity.
